Persistent deicits in social communicaion and social interacion across muliple contexts, as manifested by the following, currently or by history: deicits in social-emoional reciprocity, deicits in nonverbal communicaive behaviours used for social interacion. Symptoms must be present in early developmental period (but may not become fully manifest unil social demands exceed limited capaciies, or may be masked by learned strategies in later life). Symptoms cause clinically signiicant impairment in social, occupaional, or other important areas of current funcioning. Disturbances are not beter explained by intellectual disability or global developmental delay. Rate severity for criterion a & b: level 1: requiring very substanial support, level 2: requiring substanial support, level 3: requiring support. Struggle to make sense of and understand the social aciviies of others: social cues, body language, metaphors, sarcasm. Struggle to adopt usual nonverbal social behaviours that regulate social interacions: eye gaze, reciprocal smiling, facial expressions, gestures.
