PSYC 221 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Parietal Lobe, Occipital Lobe, Electrical Polarity
Document Summary
In the very front of the parietal lobe, there is a thin tissue called the somatosensory cortex and that is where touch processing occurs: the frontal lobe is associated with executive processing e. g decision making, planning, goals. Suggested that the prefrontal cortex is strongly related to consciousness. There are evolutionary older parts of the brain such as the brain stem and thalamus which are called the sub cortex of the brain. There is also the cerebellum which is important for movement etc: there are two areas in our brain that are specialized for language. Cortical tissue is a thin layer of neurobodies that are on the outside of our brain (e. g the grey matter). In order to fit all our cortex into our cranium, he explained that it needs to be crumpled up and that produces bumps (gyra) and fissures (sulci). Gall also explained is the relationship b/w grey matter and white matter in the brain.
