PSYC 250 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Leading Question, Fetus
Document Summary
There are 2 kinds of dichotomies for how we obtain knowledge: 1. Philosophers of psychology: foundation thinkers on how psychology and other sciences proceeded = aristotle (nurture/not innate) and plato (innate/nature) are philosophers who had a lot of influence on setting up the dichotomy between nature and nurture. Aristotle nurture: not innate believe all nature and all knowledge believed in experience. children get their knowledge from their parents, school, environment, etc. Parents are role models for their children, the idea here is to build character and produce children who are kind and respectful by setting an example themselves for their children. Children are influence by the actions of their parents, by being the role model for your child, you have control of your child, until eventually they move away from you. Believed children should be free until the age of 12 to experience with their environment freely and follow their own curiosity.
