PSYC 260 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Bobo Doll Experiment, Motor Vehicle Theft, Social Learning Theory
Document Summary
: intentional behaviour done to cause physical or emotional pain. Why do people behave aggressively? (situational variables that lead to this behaviour) Instrumental vs hostile: they may look the same (punching someone, distinguished by goal of behaviour (hurting someone, vs gaining money) Inflicting mental or psychological pain on someone is the main goal/desired outcome (u want to hurt somebody :( ) Inflicting pain on someone else is a means to an end (boxer trying to win a match) Social learning: children copy adult behaviour, they see it and especially when aggressive behaviour is rewarded they copy. Social learning theory: we learn social behaviour by observing others. And imitating, the bobo doll experiment done by bandura. 2 groups, one group of kids were exposed to tv where a bobo doll was treated aggressively by an adult, and in other group neutral behaviour was modelled.
