Document Summary

Cognitive abilities often are like this, the last to develop but the first to deteriorate with age. New borns do not have a dense amount of neuron connections. Infant selective looking experiment: ra counts how many times a baby looks at a pattern on the right or left, use direct cues to work with babies. Mental + physical stimulation = good for the brain. When does cognitive decline begin: hard to say, depends on person, could be 40s, could be never! Physical: exercise = short term stress = resets the body = helps lymph more around: sedentary lifestyle can cause brain aging, so walk and stretch a lot at the minimum! Aging and attention: concentration and attentional focus declines with age (ie: hard to block out irrelevant speech streams at a noisy restaurant) Older people are better at some things though: verbal ability stays relatively the same, but other abilities decline. How well age groups do amongst attention experiments.
