PSYC 354 Lecture 4: Joint Attention
Document Summary
Dyadic interaction - face to face interaction. Not yet communicating about something outside of that. Dyadic studies show an early enjoyment of interaction with the parent. Triadic interaction - self, other and the world. Involves sharing attention with another person about something in the world. As if checking with the other person to make sure they"re looking at the same thing. It"s a basic foundation for ways of interacting and thinking/cognition. Important to note that autism is very diverse in children. Looking where someone else is looking (butterworth) However, butterworth"s definition is not complete because two people could be looking at the same thing without knowing that the other person is looking at the same thing. Looking out on the same scene from different rooms. Two individuals know that they are attending to something in common (tomasello) Thinking of the baby as a little person. Rich interpretations: i. e. , credit infants with some psychological understanding.
