More people need psychotherapy, but not many people are getting treatment. Patient often feel ashamed, guilty and faultful to themselves, not feeling anything will help. Lack of information, not knowing the effectiveness of treatment. Require trained therapist, office, commute to office, time required, insurance etc . Everyone feels sad in some point of their lives, but to a point that passed the line and is dysfunctional for daily life, might be a form of depression. If haven"t recovered in first 6 months of treatment, their chances of recovery dropped. 50% recover during first 6 months of treatment. Most patients who got better, got better in 4 weeks. About 1/10 patients remained chronically depressed for 5 years. Qualitative differences between mild dep and chronic severe dep.
