PSYC 391 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Central Governor, Construals, Parasympathetic Nervous System
Document Summary
Anterior cingulate cortex: cognition, emotion, action, error, and reward processing, not connected to sensory regions, tightly connected to lpfc and vmpfc, apathy, blunted affect, loss of drive. Neuroanatomies of failures: emotion regulation: (more vmpfc areas active) research done found that emotional responses in certain areas are top down control/ regulated by the prefrontal cortex. Successful goal behaviour/unwanted desire inhibition hinges on the prefrontal cortex. Social distress: people lapse and can be unable to suppress things they desire in this distress, and prefrontal cortex is active during this (can be different parts of pfc depending on the type of social distress) Depletion: when people are depleted, pfc breaks down, the inverse relation also breaks down, everything becomes based off of strength of reward or arousal cuz usual regulatory processes. So could see how long effects of study lasted for after experiment end: results: when people are sick/highly stressed the amount of these cells goes down.
