Last week review: feedback loops are largely automatic (reactive system that occurs outside of awareness), there are ways to control them. Primary reactions will always be the same for persons, but secondary reactions can be modified (up or down regulation) Effortful control is in control of the secondary reaction. Levels of emotion regulation: need (hedonic) [lower level of regulation, goal, person oriented [highest level of regulation, idea of the whole self and ideal self] Defined: is different from self regulation, is more overt. Effortful altering of thoughts emotions and behaviours in order to conform to laws, norms, expectations, etc. Chronic self control: amount of self control varies from person to person, Acute self control: u can be very good at self control but in a specific circumstance u are not good. (how good u are normally is no carried over for everything) Ego depletion: u used up all your self-control resources (state of diminished self-control) aka will power.
