Infants prefer the level" of contingent responsiveness similar to their mother (primary caregiver) One of the tenets of attachment theory is maternal responsiveness. Baby talk- they like it and prefer it. Infant directed speech learns more vs adult directed speech. Zone of proximal development- we often accommodate others we talk at a particular level. Use certain words, speed, actions with a certain child @ a certain level//knowledge accommodating others in communication. Parents are aware of child"s level (ability/knowledge) to accommodate to their level. Not right to their level, but bring it up a notch they are able to learn. (just slightly above/ more complex than their level) Joint attention- both attending to the same object. Natural observations- audio and coded notes: what is happening b/w parent and child. # of parenting behaviors per hour e. g. cooking or interacting with child. Quality and quantity of the number of words. All these variables can be explained with ses and iq.
