In chapter 5 of the the slow boil, the different types of citizens who attempt to resolve the issue of the hawkers in mumbai are showcased. Among the majority of apathetic, chalta hai citizens, enterprising citizens rise: the ambivalent activist and the pragmatic activist. How the apathetic, enterprising, excluded, and hawker citizens perceive the best way to reclaim mumbai as their city is also explored. The chapter summarizes the book"s purpose, which is to not highlight certain perspectives over others, but rather, to find links between perspectives that can be used towards a conclusive solution. A particular part of this week"s reading that stood out to me was when the architect and design students presented their findings of a visual survey to the bmc. As the citizens of the city thought that bettering the city meant ridding the streets of the hawkers, the existing state of the space use might have been newly progressive in spatial use of urban cities.
