Social inequality- the long term existence of significant difference in access to good and services among groups. Social standing is a consequence of a society system or structure of opportunity and award. Achievement: what you have done to achieve a certain position; or not done. Meritocracy: based on merit, what you do or do not do. If you are a minority their isn"t as much prestige. Sometimes you can be an outsider of the insiders racial differences. We can not understand an individual by race sports is mythologized as a mobility. From a conflict perspective between social inequality and incarnation. Sports draws young black men out of the classroom. Think sports can pull them out of poverty. The odds to making it to professional athletics is very rare. Cheering for black athletes allows white people to pat them selves on the back for not being racist. Descriptions of the athletes white- hard work, intelligent black- raw talent .
