(his definition) The naturally occurring unconsolidated mineral or organic material, at least 10 cm thick that occurs at the earths surface and is capable of supporting life. (canadian system of soil class) These two definitions are very similar and either one is good to remember. Soil is composed of four things: minerals, air, water, organic matter. *soil is arranged in layers that are arranged in order of increasing complexity.
