Hesiod, poet author of theogony: wrote early about the gods. Gods were anthropomorphized: human like, made mistakes, there were immortal, and could manipulate the humans. Scary, greeks needed to make sacriices to the gods. Saw the rise of panhellenic buildings and ceremonies: open to all the greeks. Olympia (most famous sanctuary) and the olympics (most famous fesival)- to honour zeus and hera: first held in 776 bc and held every 4 years.
