Intrinsic factors: disease, territoriality, density dependent mechanisms should act to stabilize population dynamics. Think back to the scientific method in chapter 1. This large population, comprised of smaller, locally connected ones is called a metapopulation. The good news is that the rate of increase of the human population is decreasing. The size of the human population is not decreasing, but the rate at which it is growing is slowing down.
