Chapter 5: enabling organizational communications and collaboration using social media. Fluid collection of people: within and outside an organization, from different geographic locations, with the right combination of knowledge, skills, information and authority to solve problems quickly and easily. Class of software which enables people to work together more effectively. A sophisticated software tool used to help group members solve problems and make decisions through interactive structured process such as electronic. Internet based: webcam, speaker, microphone, software (skype facetime) Low cost, but single person at each site. Intranet and employee portals (trent: (cid:862)private i(cid:374)ter(cid:374)et(cid:863, customized web pages, virtual private networks for mobile connectivity. Advantages: real-time access to information and documents, enterprise search for content from internal sources, collaboration and coordination of business actives, employee portals for employee self service. Mashups combine data from one or more service providers such as google maps , flickr and the weather network.
