One of the longest poems in old english. In old english you will not find character development. Translation came out in 1999, the same year as the hobbit. Tolkin moved the monsters in the middle to look at the poem in a whole new way. Poem originally did not have a title, beowulf is an editorial title. Originally written in two different hands (two different people) The beowulf at the beginning is not the beowulf of the story, does not start at the same location either. Connection between the being and the end a land that is left lord less is in trouble. Beginning a baby is found in a boat, this child becomes the new danish leader (seen as a sign by the people) End beowulf is killed and buried, there is no leader after his death because he has no heir.
