Laws: a rule that a particular country or society creates and recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and enforced by governments. There are 2 sources of law: legislation /statutes, laws made by governments, a written law (codified) Laws made by judges - case law/ common law: must hear evidence and arguments to rule on the case, and that decision is what becomes a law. Statutues or legislation are laws creataed by 3 levels of government: Provincial: applying to that province (codes or acts) Municipal: applying to a particular city of town (by-laws) Parliamentary process (federal: to make a law, to change a law, to repeal a law. Provincial process: similar but no senate review and lieutenant governor signs to finalize, creates codes or acts. Municipal process: similar to provincial but municipal clerk signs, create by-laws. Legislative authority: governments can only act if they have legislative authority - intra vires (inside authority),
