Germans believed this would be a raid campaign. The failure at moscow (dec. 1941) were not prepared to be fighting in winter, German army is not destroyed (lost a lot though), germany could not replace these men, russia could replace a vast amount of soldiers. Germans are invent on extermination, red soldiers realize the only way to live is. Losing thousands of russians but were still able to replace them and grow their to fight army even larger. Unprepared to fight in the winter, wanted a quick war (german) Japanese launch pearl harbor, quickly achieve their objectives. Americans do not want to negotiate, because of pearl harbor americans were willing to fight for only victory over japan and will achieve this. Summer of 1942 german launch their attack to achieve oil. Need to take stalingrad to secure flank. Leads to viscous attacking, city is demolished, fighting over each factory. Soviet launch a counter attack around stalingrad.
