Trench warfare and the batle of the somme. Ww2 started in 1939- 200,000 indian forces served. By the end it was 2. 5 million men and women. Sent to france in 1914 with the indian corp. Sent to support briish troops on the front line at ypres. He and the fallen troops had delayed the germans enough to give ime. Received the victoria cross- irst south asian for reinforcements to arrive. During the 18th century britain and france had fought for the possess of colonies: later there was litle to no actual ighing between them. More business like- divided up africa: fighing was more localized and smaller scaled. Ww1 in africa was fought mainly by the africans themselves- 2 million served (under 2% of the total populaion of the coninent); 200,000 died: africa had never had this much mobilized manpower ever. Majority were not actually soldiers- they were carriers.
