Document Summary

Topic: the ways in which the relationship between conflict and development is understood in the field of social science. Or violence is the reason for change and development. Liberal - underdevelopment is a cause of conflict and development as a way out of strife and towards peace. Maxist - conflict is seen as integral to development. Development is the key to social success and less violence. If violence is an aspect of the process for social change, there is little prospect for an exit from strife. Modernization would lead to more stability. (misguided) Conflict is embedded in development understood as social change. Conflict, violence, and war are deeply interrelated and sometimes occur sequentially. Depending on the discipline, war and violence are studied as separate entities. For example, during economic strife and inequality, a civil war can arise and incur many forms of violence with respect to the current conflict.
