NURS 3550H Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Mydriasis, Adrenergic, Hemostasis
Document Summary
Autonomic pharmacology - sympathetic agonists (drugs that mimic the sns) Next tuesday is only going to be a dose calculation test. Ans test: 10 question quiz online 15min for 10 questions monday oct 1st 8am 8pm (info about test content is on blackboard) Seminars: this week and next week are the whole group, third week we split up into a and b groups. Receptors: adrenergic, alpha1, alpha2, alpha (bind really well with norepinephrine, beta (bind well with epinephrine) Adrenergic agonists: mimic effects of sns, more selective then pharasympathetic drugs. Clinical impact of adrenergic receptor stimulation: alpha-1 stimulate r effects depend on which r stimulated, vasoconstriction. Indirect-acting agonist: d inhibits synthetic enzyme, increases ne levels, mixed-acting agonist, d does both. Therapeutic indications: status asthmaticus, anaphylaxis, cardiac arrest. Adverse effects: cns, cvs, ht crisis, cerebral hemorrhage, lungs, dyspnea, liver / blood glucose, gi tract: can cause constipation, urinary tract, kidney, mydriasis ince bp tremor: b2 in skeletal muscle.
