Pascal created a distinction of god of believers (judaism, christianity, etc. ) and god of philosophers. The sun is not self evident, the sun also possesses two features. Light is a feature that illuminates the world above the cave, sun also creates/sustains life. God in these traditions sits as a fundamental reality. The sun is used to ground the world of appearance (not create) A doubt with plato"s interpretation regards the cave (the world) as a negative place (the body is a prison of the soul) Going from appearance to reality (cave to world) is a form of freedom. The allegory is not an overall representation of plato"s views. Platonic love is used to explain god. In the forms of love defined by plato the highest is beauty itself. Everything below the highest are dim reflections. Desire begins in a purely sexual way for a person. Plato suggests many get stuck in this stage.
