Document Summary
Illegitimate bias- unfairly favouring a particular point of view. Problems arise when our inclinations: interfere with good reasoning or, interfere with our willingness to consider the reasons advance by others. *people are dee(cid:373)ed (cid:373)ore (cid:858)trust(cid:449)orth(cid:455)(cid:859) if the(cid:455) are (cid:373)ale, tall, dressed (cid:449)ell, a(cid:374)d ha(cid:448)e a deep (cid:448)oi(cid:272)e. this is bias. Distortion- the truth, the wonderful truth, and nothing but the splendid, divine, truth. Co(cid:374)sider: (cid:862)pro(cid:373)ises, pro(cid:373)ises(cid:863) o(cid:374)tario out of doors, fall, 2008. Argument conclusion- wide-sweeping gun bans are not the answer. Arguer-most likely sympathetic to hunters, or are a hunter. This is odd because the author, a hunter, is preaching to the choir. Their audience is hunters so the author is kind of trying to convince the wrong audience. Vested interest- hunters want to get more hunters involved, more political power. This argument ought to be directed at the government, because they have control. Members of parliament who actually read that magazine are probably already sympathetic to that argument.
