If you were to perceive reality as it is out there, you would not recognize it all, your experience of the world is stimulated by your brain. Our sense of reality has little to do with what is out there, but more regarding what is happening between your ears. The physical stimuli are being changed and transduced in the language of the brain. The brain turns electrochemical signals into something meaningful as it is a process that seems effortless. The mcgurk effect an example of multimodal intergration. Auditory stimulus has the speaker saying ba ba . When the observer has eyes closed they will hear ba . Observing watching and listening hears da- da which is the midpoint between ga and ba . How we contrast our representation of the external world. Info (sound, light) sensation (raw data) , receptors (eyes, ears, tongue, nose, skin) . Perception (interpretation of raw data, occurs in brain)
