Document Summary
Biological bases of behaviour: nervous system, neural communication, structure of the brain. Interacting network of billions of nerve cells. Nervous system: centreal (cns)- brain and spinal cord, peripheral (pns)-nerves connecting cns to organs and muscles. Controls voluntary actions and conveys sensory info to cns. Send commands from cns to skeletal muscles: autonomic (ans) Sends command to blood vessels, internal organs, glands: sympathetic (fight or flight, parasympathetic (rest and digest) Central (cns: spinal cord- relays info between brain and pns, controls spinal reflex, brain- directs mental processes, maintains basic life functions. Spinal cord injury: different spinal nerves connect different parts of the body to the brain, above the injury intacts paths and normal function, below the injury severed paths and loss of function. 2 types of cells in the nervous tissue: neurons (brown, glial cells (blue) the glue. Glial cells: supporting/helper cells, nutrition, maintenance, protection for neurons, the glue.
