Scientific method: procedure finding truth using empirical evidence. Experimental research (quantitative) numbers also can be word based. Correlational research: allow us to determine if 2 variables are related, but does not allow us to make inferences about causation: we could ask a group of 30 students 2 questions. Two key features of an experiment: manipulation: changing variable to detriment it"s casual power, the variable that is manipulated is the iv, this creates two groups: experimental group, control group. The variable that is measured is the dv: random assignment: allows chance to assign people to experimental group or control group. Research question: how is the amount of time a child spends with their parents between ages 5 and 7. Hypothesis: more time spent with children (parents) higher the iq, goes up. Who are they: 8 year old children, a group from social group. To ensure they are in the same social class.
