Psyc 2300 class notes: introduction to abnormal psychology. Abnormal losing touch with reality, social context. Paul: since childhood paul has been sexually aroused by the sight of women"s underwear. This had caused him considerable concern as a teenager and young adult because he felt different from others and was afraid they would find out about his secret desires and ridicule him. After years of secrecy, at 26 years old, paul consulted a therapist in an attempt to deal with his usual desire. Paul finds it unusual, he is distressed, there is social implications he is afraid to be found out. Lisa: lisa went to a clinic saying that her husband and 2 teenage children had persuaded. Abnormal she is paranoid of people and of germs. She is distressed has irrational fears, not everyone wants to wash a bathroom that often. If the family choose not to comply, she would be more distressed, higher anxiety.
