Freud"s psychoanalytic theory: applications, related theoretical conception, and contemporary research. Psychodynamic personality assessment: projective tests: psychological assessments. Should be quick and efficient: challenging from a psychoanalytic perspective: Relevant material is often unconscious and its mere mention activates defence mechanisms that protect the material from reaching consciousness. Most people do not want to reveal threatening aspects of their personality: freud"s tool of assessment: free association technique. Freud"s adherents sought new assessment methods, including projective tests: the logic of projective tests. Person being assessed is asked to respond to ambiguous items. In order to respond, must interpret it. Individual will (cid:1688)project(cid:1689) aspects of his or her own personality onto the test item when interpreting it. Individual"s interpretation will be indicative of how the person typically interprets ambiguous circumstances in his or her daily life: rorschach inkblot test and thematic apperception test (tat)
