Psyc2500 week 3: child development (prenatal to infancy) Stages of birth: trimesters, first 3 months, second 3 months, final 3 months, textbook stages, zygote, embryo, fetus. From conception to birth: zygote (conception - 2 weeks, cells multiply by mitosis, changes to hollow ball of cells called blastoma. Implants in uterus: embryo (3-8 weeks, all major internal and external structures form, three layers of cells, ectodermal, nervous system, eyes, ears, skin, mesodermal, muscles, bones, heart, endodermal. Issues with temperature regulation born at 40 weeks: attachment issues to parents, brain is not fully developed, can lead to issues with cognitive abilities. Increases risk of neural tube defects: mother can expect to gain 25-35 pounds during pregnancy. Is the parents age connected with the outcome of pregnancy: teenage mothers, higher incidence of infant mortality and low-birthweight children, women of age 35 (not rlly tho) Increasing risk of chromosomal abnormalities, stillborn or preterm babies.
