Habituaion is a form of exincion, and through leaving a period of ime that is larger than the normal interval of presentaion you will get a startle response (a spontaneous recovery) Sensiizaion is an increase in response to simulus that is repeatedly presented: typically temporary. Dual process theory that every acion yields a reacion: built on the principle of homeostasis. Dpt demonstrates that there is a balance between sensiizaion and habituaion. The basis is in emoion: emoions are biphasic. Primary reacion becomes weaker with repeiion: davis (1974) played a humming and a startling noise for a rat in a box. 2 groups of rats one in low (60 db) and one in high (80 db) background noise in the low noise the rats habituated to the white noise burst (110 db) Other group sensiized and responded more frequently. Iv background noise, dv startle response.
