The way it varies has to do with the nature of the society is a part of. [the symbolic order as rooted in the social organization] Symbolic communication: varies according to the nature of the organization of social relations" of production and reproduction (the social organization) Can be visual (paintings, stop signs), numerical, aural (language), objects, body language. Human symbols are embedded in things we create. We can think of culture as an entire way of life, it is everywhere.
