We often do not look to answer these questions systematically: undertaking some research into these questions can provide insight. Conducting research can be difficulty, costly and time consuming: where do you start, what, who, when, and how do we study, consider studying dating to help improve your own dating. We also pick and choose data according to our own needs and bias. Methodological traditions and practices: social psychology has traditionally made use of scientific inquiry. That is not to say that symbolic interactionist methods are not scientific. Start with an issue then check past theory and literature to develop hypotheses. The study is geared to determine which hypotheses are true and to what extent. Lab experiments, surveys, structured interviews, simulations (quantitative) Often recreated or simulated events: symbolic interactionists focus on studying people in natural settings (qualitative) Placing ourselves into the group and their daily roles and experiences.
