Previous weeks: early theories (spiritualism, classical school, positivist, chicago school, social disorganization and differential association and learning theories, strain-anomie approaches, control theories. Crime prevention: proposed to explain why crime rates did not decline when prosperity grew in north. American society: most theories assumed that crime would decrease as living standards improved, yet, soaring crime rates in the second half of the 20th century. Because there"s many of them, they"re around more often than formal guardians, can also include security cameras. A = available (visible, know that it"s there to be stolen, attacked, etc) V = valuable (steal something worth something, etc nice car) E = enjoyable (for personal benefit if keeping, etc big screen tv) D = disposable (can sell off, get rid of, give to someone else, - if it can be identified probably not the best option) 2 main reasons, one issue per word: sequence of choices.
