The aforementioned critiques drew new theories of sexuality and created a new discipline. Uranism (lesbianism) may nearly always be suspected in females wearing their hair short, or who dress in the fashion of men and participate in sports was used to define a politically successful woman to justify her success. Women were viewed as emancipating their partners when successful.
