The first africans brought to the british american colonies was in 1619, most of which were brought to jamestown virginia, settled in. That is somebody who binds themselves to somebody else for 7 years, and in exchange they had maintenance and apprenticeship and the like to the new land. There were also a lot of white indentured servant at the time as well. The new england slave trade would begin in boston in 1638. Initially it operated as a triangular trade system. Europe would sail to west africa, exchanging rum and other commodities for slaves, who were taken to the caribbean, were traded for sugar, and made to work on the plantations. The sugar was then taken to europe, which was turned into rum, and the cycle would continue. The surplus slaves were then sold in the deep south, in georgia and such, sold to work on cotton and tobacco plantations.
