This class starts in 1997, but could start at any time because it is contemporary; it is a debatable and perspective based type of class. One of the ways in which you can look at literature is to say which texts had the most impact , whether socially, in media, etc. Literature in the 1990"s was influenced by people like tony morrison. Had to do with how the states treated their citizens. Had to do with economic and school institutions reacted to crises in the world, wwii, vietnam war, iraq war, etc. None of the texts in this class do that. Instead, most of them look at character and individuals, representing culture, life itself, as something that is filtered through the subject"s eyes, and through imperfect human filters.
