Document Summary

Lenin was not in favour of a takeover, but changed his mind later on. Their popularity was increasing by the july days, in which the workers were becoming more supportive and the parties growing larger. In mid september, the bolsheviks gained a majority vote in the soviet. The provisional government also finally set a date for the election, november 25th. Lenin was concerned about this assembly; if it went through, it would have legitimacy. If the bolsheviks didn"t do well, then their ability to shake events wouldn"t work. Lenin had more faith in the soviets, where they had slowly gained control in petrograd. They got together in june for a congress. The second was supposed to meet october 25th. He knew that they didn"t control most of russian soviets. He wanted a full bolshevik takeover of the soviets, and full bolshevik terms. Lenin had a hard time convincing the central committee to do this.
