THE BOOK OF MORMON
The book of Mormon that we have today was translated by use of a seer stone
Smith translated by placing seer stone in a hat and covering his with his hat to darken the stone
Almost all witnesses to the process agree to these facts

The book of Mormon documents the history of the inhabitants of pre Colombian America
Covers from c 2200 BCE to 500 CE
The nephites, jaradites, mulikites and lamanites were descendants of peoples who had
migrated to America from the ancient near east
Arriving in three successive migrations and landing in various parts of the Americas, they soon
spread out over the entire western hemisphere
The 1st migration under their leader Jared, left the near east at the time of the tower of Babel
Under the prophet lehi a second group left the near east around 600 BCE
Last migration under Mulek, left the near east around 600 BCE
The descendants of these immigrants populated the land, built cities
These people were visited by a resurrected jesus who proclaimed the same message he had in
Palestine
Over time and through several wars, the people were eventually separated into 2 remaining
groups: nephites and lamanites
The lamanites as a result of their disobedience to god became dark skinned
The lamanites were considered to be ancestors of the Amerindian nations (Native American)
The nephites remained obedient to god and therefore remained white
The nephites and lamanites clashed in a final battle in NY that resulted in the annihilation of the
nephites
The history of the American continents was compiled and inscribed on metal plates. It was from
this hill (hill camorah), that joseph smith retrieved the buried record of ancient America
GEOGRAPHY
No artifacts related to any of the civilizations mentioned in the book of Mormon have been
found to date
We have no idea where any of these places are, were or could have been
Statements from joseph smith gave us an idea of where these places were.
Historically we only have one identifiable place
The cumorah in the book of Mormon is the hill cumorah in New York state
BOOK OF MORMON IN AMERICAN CULTURE
It decides all the great controversies of the early 19th century
Adresses’ Ifat aptis, ordiatio, trinitarianism, atonement, repentance, regeneration,
justification, the fall of mankind, transubstantiation.
It also addresses fasting, penance, govt, religious experience, call of the ministry, the general
resurrection, eternal punishment and who may baptize.
Even the question of masonry, republican govt and rights of man.
