AN SC312 Lecture 7: Lecture 7-9 Notes
Document Summary
Role of fsh isn"t that important in the dominance phase. This is as the animal comes into estrus. Primarily the lh receptors are only on the theca cells but later it will be all over the follicle. Can have recruitment, selection and some dominance when progesterone is high. But dominance and ovulation can only happen when estradiol is high. Only waves happening during proestrus will develop into pre-ovulatory and respond to lh surges. Because progesterone is high they won"t be able to develop and not have an lh surge. Only follicles that happen in proestrus to estrus will the progesterone drop and estradiol which will have an lh surge and the follicle will ovulate. Can rescue the other follicles by short-cycling them. Having a 14 day cycle instead of 28 (for example) Only when progesterone is low enough do you see the engagement of the surge center. And high levels of estradiol will change the brain for a female.
