Balancing kin ties against group loyalties and beliefs. There is division between age groups (elementary school vs high school) You generally help each other in material and emotional ways. Marking periods of transition with physical, emotional and spiritual transformations (boyhood to manhood through initiation, girlhood to womanhood: the stages are the same, just the people are changing) Involves a change in your mental view of the world, you have different responsibilities and therefore different views. Intensification is about strengthening your membership to that sect, intensifying that group activity. Perpetuating power is about ensuring the stories and myths to ensure they carry on. Activities can sometimes be undesirable with your beliefs i. e. child marriages. Commonly occur as arranged marriages o: often a young girl and an older man. Video notes: do not explain the process of marriage to the child when it was happening o. Reason the parents married her off was poverty. Europeans also practiced common arranged marriages of children.
