Fossil (latin term) that literally means obtained by digging. Fossil record- totality of all fossils found within the earth: macroevolution over geological time. Importance of climate and environment in shaping the evolution of human beings. Fossil hominins are grouped together with living human beings because of a set of skeletal features that indicate habitual bipedalism seems to be the first of our distinctive anatomical traits to have appeared. Hominin evolution also marked by additional evolutionary changes in dentition. Some developed an expanded brain came to depend on tools and language (culture) for survival. Mosaic evolution- a process of change over time in which different phenotypic traits, responding to different selection pressures, may evolve at different rates: why evolution of our species is considered a process, not a single event. Oldest known hominins are the australopiths (fossils come from africa: the oldest fossil evidence of australopiths is fragmentary, (cid:862)lu(cid:272)(cid:455)(cid:863) is the (cid:373)ost fa(cid:373)ous aust(cid:396)alopith fossil.
