Can tell what happened first (bite marks or cut marks). If the bone was cut first, then it indicates that they were hunters. If the bite marks were there first, it means that they were scavengers. Taphonomy is the ways in which the archaeological record forms. All sites created through combination of cultural and natural processes. (taphonomy) Acquire material, in the process it may create objects (stone tools,) Manufacturing (stages where various elements can enter the archaeological record) Usually, usable objects do not become a part of the archaeological record, unless it is lost. The creation of deliberate disposal, the creation of specific features. The ways that materials enter the record are deliberate, accidental or by disposal. Ancient people destroyed sites by accident and on purpose (destruction of heritage) Modern development (changes/ construction happening while site inhabited) Natural processes (wind, water, erosion, accumulation) that impact the archaeological record.
