Document Summary

A technique of varying tonality(relative contrast between light and dark areas) used by artist to create the illusion of spatial depth, volume and mass in a two-dimensional work. Atmospheric perspective- an observation-based technique used to create a sense of depth and distance by simulating the appearance of atmosphere, using stauration, contrast and tonality. Objects closest to the implied proximity of the viewer are rendered in saturated colors,in focus, and in high contrast. Distant objects are rendered more tonal, in low contrast, out of focus, and in desaturated colour simulating the optical effects of atmosphere. Giotto shows emotional tone of people in background. Intuitive perspective- a method of giving the impression of recession of space by visual instinct, not by an overall system or program. Size:diminution= a perspectival device involving scale: decreasing size to indicate relationships between elements and objects. The size of objects depends on their position in the space.
