Document Summary

Slightly blunt at one end, slightly pointy at the other like other ecdysozoa; must moult non-living cuticle (exuviae) their simplicity is a result of secondary simplification from a more complex body design- they have evolved to become simpler. Complete digestive tract but no circulatory system two sexes: internal fertilization / some are hermaphrodites. Eutelic: post-embryonic growth occurs by each cell growing, not by the addition of cells. Caenorhabditis elegans: a model organism for studying development. Knock out one cell from embryo; consequences in adult miss that cell they move side-to-side by contracting their longitudinal body wall nucleus. Some penetrate the plant root then suck on every nutrient. Medically important: e. g. filarial worms , pinworms, roundworms, etc present in the phloem. Many are parasitic species of plants and animals. Need to know the c. elegans & trichinosis.
