2 classes: millipedes & centipedes (mostly tropical) Head with ocelli, mandibles, 1 pair antennae trunk with from 3-925 pairs of jointed legs. Class diplopoda (millipedes) two pairs of legs per segment. A few may suck out contents of fungal hyphae. Get coiled up when they are threatened. 1 pair of modified legs behind their mouthparts. Poison claws used to subdue prey & fight predators. Mostly carnivorous its footprint on land is the first evidence of animal on land. Chelicerae as their main mouthparts lack antennae. 6 pairs of limbs: 4 pairs of legs, chelicerae, pedipalps (sensory, handle food, transfer sperm to females) and eyes (if present) Mainly terrestrial but some mites are secondarily aquatic. Separate sexes fluid-feeding predators; do not ingest solid particles. Order araneae (spiders) tight constriction between cephalothorax & abdomen. 0-4 pairs of ocelli tracheae and/or book lungs for respiration. Book lungs - increased surface area to increase gas exchange. Spinnerets: abdominal appendages - spinning silk fluid-feeding predators.
