Strs in csf play an important role in dna fingerprinting. Not harmful for health, gene is functional with as many number of repeats. Chances that two people will have the same genotype is small. Pcr is used to determine the allele each person has: detecting strs. A person who is 7/12 heterozygote at the cfs1po site. Amplify the region of interest with pcr. Running the pcr products in agarose gel. Faster moving band is the pcr product containing the 7 allele and slower moving one the 12 allele. Gel electrophoresis is very labour intensive so use capillary tube electrophoresis. One of the two pcr primers has a fluorescent dye. If two peaks appear: heterozygous: similarities between gel and capillary tube electrophoresis.
