Higher rates of decomposition with precipitation (moisture increases decomposition rates) Plants that are more nutrient rich and fragile are going to decompose faster than the plants that are rich in lignin and nutrient poor. The tundra holds the majority of the world"s carbon. Climate change will melt permafrost making more of the dead organic material available to decomposers. The most decomp that occurs, potentially will release more carbon into the environment. Nutrients move in a very different way (property of water) Could mean that there are pockets of the stream where the nutrients are poor. Nitrogen fixation by human processes now exceeds nonhuman sources. 7x increase in fertilizer use in the last 40 years .
