Nephele returns to the sky (as a cloud) Ino hates her step-children - devises a plan. Causes a famine --> athamus sends messengers to delphi to speak to an oracle about how to end the famine. Ino intercepts the prophecy and puts her own in - you must sacrifice your children. Nephele sends a ram with a golden fleece. The children get on the ram and it takes off to safety. Except helle falls off - hellespont (the gap between europe and asia) Phrixus escapes with the ram and continues on northeast. King aeetes gives his daughter, calciope, to phrixus. Sacrifices the ram to zeus phyxius (god of escape) Aeetes puts it on an oak tree in the grove of ares, where it is watched by a never-sleeping dragon. Jason = the son of one of the previous rulers of iolcus. Was exiled by pelias (send to be educated by chiron) so that pelias could have the throne.
