The men were in court and expected to write in classical chinese; women were not expected to write in chinese. Murasaki shikibu and her brother was given a good education; she was an imperial consort and lady in waiting. Would educate the princesses most likely in classical. Ser(cid:448)ed the daughter of the fuji(cid:449)ara (cid:374)o mi(cid:272)hi so(cid:373)ethi(cid:374)g: one of several famous female authors of the period, who also lived similar lives. She is known for her poetry, diary, and the tale of genji.
